Jean Gayon (Ph.D. Université de Paris I) teaches philosophy at the Université de Paris I, where he is also head of the graduate school. His research areas are for the most part focused on the history of contemporary biology (theory of evolution, genetics, biometry), on the epistemology of the life sciences, and on the philosophy of science in general. His work sometimes touches the social, political and ethical aspects pertaining to the life and medical sciences, such as eugenism, biodiversity and the diversity of the human species. Gayon also taught at the Université de Bourgogne and at Université Paris 7. He also was visiting teacher at University of Notre-Dame. He's a member of the International Academy for the Philosophy of Science (A.I.P.S.), senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France and membre correspondant of the International Academy for the Philosophy of Science (A.I.H.S)
