Paul Thompson

Paul Thompson (Ph.D. 1979, University of Toronto) holds appointments as both Director of, and Professor in the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IHPST). He also teaches in the Departments of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Cell and Systems Biology, Philosophy, and the Joint Centre for Bioethics. He has been a Vice-President of the University of Toronto (2002 - 2003) and a Principal and Dean of the University of Toronto at Scarborough (1989 -2002). He has held visiting professorial appointments at the University of California (Davis) and the University of Guelph. He is the editor of Issues in Evolutionary Ethics and has published numerous journal articles on population genetics, mathematical modelling in biology, evolutionary theory, theory structure in biology, and ethics. He is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Ethics of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
